Just got through watching the greatest tennis match of my life-two men playing at a an unconscious level, competing at a level beyond great. There seems to be a movement in our society to discourage competition, beginning with our youth, for fear that someone will be hurt or upset. In my personal experience, competition has done nothing but raise the level of work and concentration, especially in my classroom. Students(some,not all) have a natural thirst to see how they stand next to each other, and in doing so,improved the performance of the class as a whole.We are not all equal-let's find the best in our world and see what the rest of us can learn from them.
